Ball Arena is the home of the Colorado Avalanche (NHL), Denver Nuggets (NBA), and Colorado Mammoth (NLL), located at 1000 Chopper Circle in Denver's Central Platte Valley. Designed by HOK Sports Facilities Group, the arena opened on October 1, 1999 as the Pepsi Center with a sold-out Celine Dion concert and was renamed Ball Arena in 2020. It seats 18,007 for NHL hockey, 19,099 for NBA basketball, and up to 20,000 for concerts across 675,000 square feet and five levels. Ball Arena's championship credentials are extraordinary. The Colorado Avalanche have won three Stanley Cups: 1996 — their first Denver season and the only team ever to win the Cup in a debut relocated season — 2001, with Joe Sakic captaining and Ray Bourque lifting the trophy in one of hockey's most emotional moments, and 2022, defeating the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games at Ball Arena. The Denver Nuggets won their first NBA Championship in 2023. Two major professional sports titles in consecutive years at the same arena is matched by almost no other venue in North American history. The arena contains a genuinely unique amenity: a full-size Denver Nuggets practice basketball court inside the building itself. Breckenridge Brewery Mountain House, accessible both from inside the arena and from the street without an event ticket, is a centrepiece of the pre-game experience. RTD access is exceptional — the Ball Arena/Elitch Gardens light rail station sits directly on the arena's western side, one minute from Union Station by E or W Line. Union Station connects to the Denver International Airport A Line. RTD fares are just $2.75 for a 3-hour pass. For the 2025-26 season — the Avalanche's 30th anniversary at Ball Arena — Legends Global introduced fan-friendly pricing ($5 snacks, $10 draft beers) and local Denver food vendors including Redeemer Pizza and Nola Jane. In April 2026, a suite renovation programme was announced for 24 luxury suites debuting in 2026-27, alongside a broader 12-million-square-foot mixed-use redevelopment master plan for the 70 surrounding acres — one of the most ambitious urban projects in Denver's history.
Ball Arena has its own RTD light rail station — Ball Arena/Elitch Gardens — on the western side of the arena. The E and W Lines stop here. From Union Station it is a one-minute ride. The W Line runs west to Lakewood and Golden; the E Line southeast toward Aurora. RTD fares are $2.75 for a 3-hour pass or $5.50 all-day, purchasable on the RTD app.
An RTD bus stop is directly adjacent to Ball Arena at 9th Street and Auraria Parkway, served by five routes (15L, 43, 6, 20, 44) stopping almost at the arena door. From 15th Street downtown, around 20–25 buses per hour serve the corridor. The free MallRide operates on 15th and 17th Streets (while 16th Street Mall reconstruction is ongoing). All RTD vehicles are fully accessible.
Southbound on I-25: exit 212B toward downtown, left onto Speer Boulevard, right at the second stoplight onto Chopper Circle. Northbound on I-25: exit 210B for Auraria Parkway, then left onto 11th Street. Official Toyota-branded lots surround the arena (Camry Lot, RAV4 Lot, etc.) — minimum $35 for Avalanche and Nuggets games, $5 discount for card payments. Lots open 2.5 hours before events.
Ball Arena is a 10–15-minute walk from Union Station along the South Platte River trail and Millennium Bridge, following Little Raven Street and the Riverfront Park pathway. From downtown hotels, approximately 15–20 minutes west along 15th Street or Speer Boulevard.
